A Super Simple Summer To-do List

Sometimes, at the start of a new season, I put together a to-do list to make the most of the days ahead. I keep it short (so it’s doable) and fun (no projects allowed). Here’s what’s on my list for this summer.

Read Sandwich by Catherine Newman. This is the book I keep hearing about everywhere.

Make Porch Party Shrimp with Mississippi Comeback Sauce. Apparently comeback sauce is the house dressing of Mississippi. Who knew? Thinking this will make a great dinner on a hot day.

Go to a hometown museum.

Read Small Mercies by Dennis Lehane. We’re headed to Boston next month and as I was Googling around for books set there, I ran across the novels of Dennis Lehane, who I only know by the movies based on his books (Mystic River, Gone Baby Gone). I’m excited to get into this one.

Make a summer playlist.

Go to our big city market. I tend to favor farmstands that I can just swing by when it suits me but I want to set aside at least one weekend day this summer for breakfast and shopping at our large farmer’s market.

Recreate a charcuterie that Grant and I had at Cheval in KC. This will require finding a delicious blackberry jam.

Have you ever made a seasonal bucket list? In case you’re interested I find it helpful to think in terms of things to read, watch, make, or listen to, or places to go. I’d love to know what’s on your list!

P.S. Life according to my iPhone and a ‘places to go and things to do’ list.

Loved Sandwich: A novel. Couldn’t put it down! Read it in 24 hours. Laugh out loud funny, but oh so poignant and touching.
