Around the House

If you’ve read this blog for any length of time, you know that I love a good secondhand find. I’ve done my fair share of shopping at estate sales and on Craigslist, but recently I tried shopping an online auction and came away with this little chest for my living room.

It was a local auction but we did have to drive about an hour to pick it up because I forgot to check the location first (oops). It works perfectly in this spot where I previously had a little table. I like that this is a little heftier than the table and the extra storage is so welcome too.

Speaking of furniture, I picked up these checked slipcovers for my Ikea parsons chairs off of eBay. I think these slipcovers were once carried by Ikea but no longer are. I love the little bit of piping on them.

I’ve found that many parsons chairs I run across sit just a tad too low for the table. The two I have in my dining room do, and so did many others I tried when I was shopping for kitchen chairs. These Ikea chairs do not, however. I was so happy to discover that because even a tiny bit can make a big difference at the table.

I couldn’t take pictures of the table without snapping this one of the hydrangeas from my bush out front. Growing hydrangeas is very hit or miss for me so I’m thrilled that these are doing so well this summer. They bloom white, turn green as they fade, and there’s just the tiniest bit of pink in there. The perfect summer flowers.

Green pillows on this bench have provided a little bit of color in the entryway this summer. They will get changed out for pillows in fall colors soon.

Finally, can I tell you how much I love this little picture I picked up at an estate sale? When I was paying, the woman doing the checkout said, “oh, I think you got a treasure.” I think so too.

Hope you’re enjoying the end of summer!

P.S. More around the house.
