Around the House

Hello and happy August! I hope the end of your summer is going well. Here are a few little things from around our house that are making me happy right now.

I’ve fallen in love with bamboo flatware, but the true bamboo pieces are pretty pricey so I started with these little corn-on-the-cob holders. They’ve been fun to use this summer and I love the way they look in this little creamer in the dining room hutch.

I was eyeing a navy and white buffalo plaid tablecloth from Pottery Barn and almost pulled the trigger during a sale, but did some shopping around and ordered this less expensive one instead. It’s going to look great with white dishes but I also love it with these green Bordallo Pinheiro dinner plates.

Speaking of those green plates, I bought some Bordallo Pinheiro salad plates with ducks like these and in addition to being great little plates for salads or sandwiches or dessert, I’ve been putting them under little planters around the house. They do great pulling double duty.

My mother-in-law recently downsized to a small apartment and there was no room for her china cabinet. I had my fingers crossed that it would work in this spot in my living room and it fit just perfectly. I filled it with books and topped it with blue and white (no surprise there). I can’t tell you how much I’m enjoying it.

  1. Such nice pix, Julie! I love the bamboo corn picks, and your MIL’s cabinet is lovely. Great tablecloth and price…and free shipping! I’ve sometimes found good buys on table linens at places like HomeGoods. It can be hit-or-miss but the hits are fun! ~Jillian

    1. I agree! HomeGoods is great for linens.
