CTL Weekly 01.05

Hi friend and Happy New Year! I hope 2024 is treating you well so far. As I type this it is snowing outside and the view out my window is beautiful. I hope you’re somewhere warm, whether that’s somewhere sunny or in front of a fire.

Here’s a little something I wanted to share with you…

Back in November, I was pulling into our neighborhood when I noticed a FedEx truck waiting to pull onto the street I was on. I glanced into the truck (you know how the sides of them are open so the drivers can jump in and out quickly?) and I noticed the young driver singing and even dancing in his seat a little bit while he waited for me to pass. Even though I only saw him for a second, his energy made me feel good too and I thought “Aha! That’s a glimmer!”

I learned about glimmers from this Instagram post last year and I shared it with you then but I thought the new year might be a good time to share again.

The concept of glimmers was created by therapist Deb Dana who describes them this way:Glimmers refer to small moments when our biology is in a place of connection or regulation, which cues our nervous system to feel safe or calm. We’re not talking great, big, expansive experiences of joy or safety or connection, these are micro moments that begin to shape our system in very gentle ways.Did you know about glimmers? I’m going to try and notice them more often in the new year.

A 1920’s Tudor in Portland, OR gets a timeless update. Said the designer: “We wanted to honor the soul of the house but also bring it into the 21st century. Even in its tired state, you could tell it was extraordinary.”

We made these chocolate martinis over the holidays and they were so good.

A (very) little thing that I discovered in 2023 were these little white sponges from Amazon. I love that they’re not the bright colors that sponges usually are. Also, they come compressed (so they’re easy to store) and they expand in water (which is kind of neat). Here are some other kitchen favorites I started using and loving in 2023: white and bamboo kitchen brushesplastic bag organizerswhite microfiber towels, and glass dispensers with labels.

Shirttail Cashmere Sweater
The Charter Club Shirttail Cashmere sweater that I have in two colors and wear all the time is a Macy’s deal of the day. It comes in a bunch of colors and in both regular and plus sizes. I have it in black and bright blue and wear it mostly with jeans. I love the longer length.

Macy’s On 34th Line
Macy’s also has a new line called On 34th that looks fun and is all on sale today. I’ve got my eye on this sherpa jogger setkick-flare ankle pants, and striped pullover. I’m looking forward to trying this new to me brand.

36 places to visit to embrace (rather than escape) winter.

I hope you have a wonderful weekend.

P.S. A Kansas City winter staycation.
