A little story about the photo you see above: I originally saw this piece of art on Instagram in the house of someone I follow but don’t know. I was so taken by it that I googled around to see if I could find it and it turns out it’s a print of a painting done in the 1880’s of a Scottish reverend who was part of a skating society in Edinburgh. Anestry.com tells me that I’m 34% Scottish and our Scottish heritage was a big deal to my dad so that made me love it even more.

Because the painting was done so long ago, it’s a public domain work so I bought a download of it on Etsy and had it printed*. When it arrived I put it in this frame I had bought at another art sale and when I hung it up I may have squealed a little. I couldn’t love it more.

I found this short video that tells the story of the original painting, which hangs in the National Galleries of Scotland. It has a pretty interesting history, including a connection to Bruce Springsteen. The painting is commonly called The Skating Minister and I’m so happy to have him in our home.

I also brought home these two pieces from a recent visit to an antique mall, so it’s been a happy art week at our house.

*I had this printed through Mpix. (FYI, that link will give you $10 off your first order if you want to try them.) When I have something printed at Mpix that isn’t going to be behind glass, like this print, I choose the gilcee print on fine art photographic paper on double-weight matboard.

Home Tour

Maura Endres is one of my favorite Instagram follows; I love studying her rich and layered home. Maura tends to let her photos do the speaking on IG but a few years back The Glam Pad did an interview with her where she talks about her home and her style.

Currently Loving

I had been looking for a lightweight vest in a longer length when I ran across this vest for all seasons from Coldwater Creek. I got it in black but it comes in ten different colors. It’s on sale right now.

On My Radar

I noticed that our bar stools from Arhaus are also on sale. We’ve had these bistro-style stools for several years and I still love them. Ours are in this natural weathered finish but they come in dark brown and black too.

  1. As always, love your content. Those vests are a 3 season staple for me, but could use a couple replacements. Thanks, and have a great weekend!
