CTL Weekly 05.24

Frederic Magazine

Hello friends. When I last wrote, I told you I was taking a short hiatus from Creating This Life while exploring something new. That something new was a different newsletter platform, which is just a fancy way of saying a different place for Creating This Life to live on the internet. In the end, I decided that we’d stay right here at creatingthislife.com, at least for now, so no big changes on that front.

I do want to mention, though, that I have a few new posts lined up for the coming weeks, in addition to the Friday CTL Weekly posts, so if you aren’t subscribed to Creating This Life and you’d like to receive those and other future posts in your inbox, you can sign up here. It’s free, and you can unsubscribe at any time. I’d love to have you aboard!

Here is what I saved to share with you this week.

A 1990s house with an old soul in the Chicago suburbs. Lots of good ideas for those of us who love old homes but live in newer ones.

I recently hit two estate sales on the same day that were full of coffee table books. Here’s what I brought home.

Speaking of: How to arrange and style coffee table books from Southern Living.

That time eleven years ago when the DELIGHTFUL Jonathan Groff recreated the title number of Anything Goes for a benefit performance. This is one of those videos I know I’ll come back to when I need a pick-me-up. (Paul Rudd’s lip sync to Don’t Stop Me Now is another.)

There’s a reason why the names of Irish bars are always someone’s last name.

Why Farrow and Ball paint has a cult following among designers. I’ve always wondered about this.

How pretty are these sheets in a coastal landscape print from L.L. Bean?

Anne Bogel’s short summer reading guide is out if you’re looking for something to read. Her popular guides are eagerly anticipated every year.

I hope you have a great, long weekend!

  1. I always look forward to your posts! Love the estate sale books, you found some great ones.

  2. I’m so happy to see you’re back! I was afraid I’d miss out completely because I’m not on Instagram. I love CTL!
    Have a great weekend, Julie.

    1. That’s so nice of you to say, Rita. Thank you!

  3. Robin Bowman says:

    so glad you’re back!
You shared a picture of a beautiful chair I think you purchased on Facebook marketplace. Can you share what brand it is? It’s a perfect size and it’s beautiful in the corner you placed it in.
    Glad you’re back!

    1. Hi Robin. I looked and can’t find a label or tag on the chair. So weird. It’s not a very expensive chair but it’s super comfortable. I hope you find something you like.
