CTL Weekly 05.31

A little while back, I told you about an Italian map Grant bought me that I finally got framed. Since then, that map has become the start of a gallery wall in our half bath/powder room. When I knew I wanted the map in there, I laid it on our dining room table and started pulling other pieces from around the house to come up with an arrangement.

What I ended up with included a vintage etching from an estate sale (upper left) and a framed, vintage print of a Black Watch soldier found in an antique mall (lower right). In the upper right is a frame I had with a print in it I didn’t care for. I was searching on Etsy for something new when I remembered that I had a book of Currier and Ives illustrations (like this one), and when I found and opened the book, the page with this clipper ship was loose and fell right out. It was asking to be framed! lol

I think it would be fun to fill this room floor to ceiling with art. Small rooms seem like good places to go big!

Here’s what I saved to share with you this week…

A New Orleans home with an English country vibe.

The editor who fought to publish Julia Child’s cookbook.

I love this funny story Ryan Gosling shares about his daughter’s power move. My family has since adopted it, and it makes me laugh every time.

The color I have on my toes from June through September (and lots of other months too). Not quite red, not quite orange, not quite pink. It looks good with everything.

The Home Alone house is for sale. It’s been redone but I kind of miss the 90’s movie interiors. Anyone else?

File this under “good to know” about shopping online for furniture and home goods.

The third book in John Grisham’s Camino series is out. I have enjoyed these books that have a Florida bookseller and a bestselling novelist as the recurring characters. Perfect summer reads.

I hope you have a wonderful weekend.

P.S. Weekend links: Julia Child edition and four fabulous home tours.

  1. Hi Julie,
Love your blog! Local KC girl here (Overland Park).
Found the information on furniture buying online fascinating! For those of us who are not tech savvy, would you tell us how to “reverse image search” a product?
    That would be immensely helpful.

Enjoy our wonderful Midwest summer..and thanks for keeping me in the know on so many fun things!

PS: Love you powder room gallery-in-progress!

    1. Janice, thanks for your nice comment. Love hearing from a KC/OP girl! How to reverse image search depends on whether you’re doing it on your computer, phone, or tablet so I would recommend Googling it. Lots and lots of results will come up, some written, some videos. It’s not hard once you get used to it.
