Family Room Art

Artwork· House & Home October 26, 2015

A year and a half ago I started an unintentional gallery wall around our family room TV.

It began with these prints of Kansas City fountains that I found at an estate sale.

And then I added a drawing of the house where Tom grew up.

For a very long time, the wall stayed just like this.

Then my mom gifted me these two little prints and they became part of the wall.

Small prints in gold frames

And last week I ran across this signed ship print at an estate sale, which seemed like it belonged on the wall too.

So now the accidental gallery wall has grown to this.

So now the wall looks like this. It’s taken on a black, white, silver and gold theme.

But the real star of the family room is this girl.

Oil painting of cow

I have a real things for cows. I just love them. And I love oil paintings.

I’ve actually been looking for an oil of a cow for a while. That’s weird to say, right?

On Friday I stopped into an antique mall that I haven’t been in in probably a year. It’s small, so I planned to just quickly roam the aisles before heading to the grocery store. About halfway through, I looked up and found this picture waiting for me.

Would you look at that face?

I brought her home and gave her a prominent place in our family room.

At night, when the lights in the cabinet are on, her white face just glows.

It’s like it was meant to be. I’m thinking of naming her. So far she’s just Elsie, but if you have any other ideas, let me know.

    Hi Julie,
I always marvel at your excellent sense of style and design! You can take almost any object, common or obscure, and turn it into a real showpiece : ) I have a thing for cows too and have received many a “cow themed” gift from people, but never have I seen such a beautiful painting of a cow. It truly depicts the gentleness and dignity God gave this lovely creature! Thank you so much for sharing it with us. Now, I only need to try to find one for my home!

Your gallery wall looks great. Nice arrangement. Nice cow painting, too, and I like its location. The frame is gorgeous, by the way. This is my first time visiting your blog. . .came here from Metamorphosis Monday. I love your hutch and did a search to find out more about it. Outstanding makeover. Your family room is very pretty.
