Life Lately

Hi friends. How is your summer going? Occasionally I like to check in and catch up so I’m doing that today.

Tom and I had the best weekend at the lake a couple of weekends back. Just the two of us. Our favorite thing about having a lake place is having a houseful of people but it’s so nice to sneak in these quiet times in between. I took advantage of the quiet weekend to take some lake pictures from different vantage points than I usually do. This little pathway below our condo leads to the docks and I’m always charmed by the rope railings.

We spent Friday of that weekend at the pool with Tom’s brother and our sister-in-law and then the four of us threw on some clothes and grabbed dinner at a nearby Mexican restaurant. The margaritas were delicious – this was the MEDIUM. We also ran into friends from home who had stopped in for dinner. It was a pretty perfect day in the simplest of ways.

Our condo is on the west side of Lake of the Ozarks, also known as the quiet side of the lake or the Kansas City side (as opposed to the St. Louis side). Most restaurants and businesses are small and locally owned, which we love. Pappa’s (formerly Pappy’s, before that Scotty’s) is a favorite place for burgers. I get the crinkle-cut fries, Tom loves the fried mushrooms. We get them at the drive-up window and then take them home to eat on the deck.

Back in KC, my high school bestie was in town and I met her and her daughter for lunch. They’re in the last days of wedding planning so we had lots to chat about. I couldn’t resist taking a pic of the summertime flowers on the Plaza after lunch.

I finally ordered this pedestal table from Wayfair because I knew it would work in so many places. It’s solid wood, very affordable, and when it arrived I assembled it in minutes (no tools required). It’s headed to the lake but I’m enjoying it here for now. It comes in black and a darker brown too.

My mom took a trip to Nell Hills to look at all the summer displays. I loved this bunting on their railings.

I also stopped in to check out a new-ish store while out running errands last week. How cute is this entrance? KC friends, it’s at 95th and Mission in Overland Park and it’s worth a stop if you’re in that area.

Grant performed on Saturday and Sunday with the Heartland Men’s Chorus and it was a great chance to go to the Kauffman Center.

It’s a stunning building, inside and out.

We met Lindsey and Morgan at Lula before the Saturday performance.

Lula has a really good Southern comfort food menu and I was all about the plates of course.

Lindsey and Morgan had a belated Father’s Day dinner for Tom on Monday. I only took a few pics but I love this one of Grant with their dog Milo.
