Quick Chicago Trip in Pictures

We are just back from four days in Chicago, our favorite place for a quick getaway.

This time we went with friends for a KU basketball game (which we won’t talk about) and I kept my iPhone handy to take quick shots of some of things that inspired me. Starting with this view of Michigan Avenue from our hotel room. Magical.

Since we’ve been to Chicago many times, Tom and I have started getting off the beaten path and into some new neighborhoods when we go now. Last time we went to Oak Park, and this time we had an Uber drive us drop us off in Lincoln Park.

Lincoln Park is a lovely, mostly residential area. There are blocks and blocks of this kind of thing.

We ended up walking our way back to Michigan Avenue from Lincoln Park. The Health App on our iPhones said we logged over 15,000 steps that day. No wonder people who live in the city are so fit!

All that walking is good because there’s so much good eating in Chicago. I can never resist this shot of the pizza at Giordano’s.

And we visited a new restaurant – Mercadito’s – where they set the margaritas on fire. Fun!

Another fun part of this trip was seeing the city prepare for Christmas. Everywhere you looked there were shopkeepers and landscapers hanging lights and garland. The wreaths and garland were already up on the Wrigley Building.

And nothing says Christmas in the city quite like a little Christmas tree lot. I was charmed by this one.

And then there were the stores.

Ralph Lauren seems made for Christmas, doesn’t it?

I loved this cocktail menu that Anthropologie wrote on a mirror.

And I can never go to Chicago without visiting P.O.S.H., which was so stunning decked out for Christmas. This store always inspires me. You can see more pictures of it from a previous trip here.

It’s fun getting away but I’m always happy to be home and now I’m ready to dive into the holidays. How are your holiday plans coming?

  1. OMG, Julie, amazing pics! I keep going back to look at them over and over. Love the Christmas tree lot with the pumpkins. I’ve only been to Chicago once when I was a kid. It’s calling me back! ~Jillian

PS – Sorry about the KU game, but I bet you DO want to talk about those Royals! My brother sent pics of the parade rally…pretty amazing!

    1. Yes! I will talk about the Royals all day long. So fun!

  2. Hi Julie,
Landed here from a favorite I had of your old blog. So glad to see you’re still writing.

Love these pics! Spent some time in Chicago a few years ago and it sure brings back some memories.

    Thanks!

  3. I adore Chicago, but haven’t been in about four years (now that I think about it!) I had heard there was a bad crime wave for a while, but your trip looks safe and sound! This would be a great time of year to go. Glad you had fun. Happy Thanksgiving!

Your pictures of my city are beautiful. Your blog should do wonders for Chicago tourism.
