What I’m Loving Right Now
Happy Thursday! I hope all is well with you, especially any of you affected by Ian in Florida. You guys have been in my thoughts all week.
From time to time I like to share with you some things that I’m loving. Here’s what’s on my list right now.
Pear martinis. Our favorite neighborhood Italian restaurant has a cocktail that I love and always order. The menu lists just two ingredients: Grey Goose la Poire and Moscato d’Asti so I decided to try and recreate it at home. Three parts Moscato to one part vodka seems just about right (your mileage may vary). The restaurant garnishes it with a cherry but a slice of pear would be perfect too.
Mini jigsaw puzzles. I love jigsaw puzzles but I rarely do them due to the time they involve and the space they take up. When we were in DC, however, I bought a 100-piece puzzle of the DC Metro system at a gift shop, and back home I found myself putting it together every few weeks. I ran across a few more of these smaller puzzles at a KC shop and now I’m hooked. They take about 30 minutes to put together and I do one right at my desk whenever my brain needs a break. The ones I have are all from New York Puzzle Company.
James Farmer’s new book. When James Farmer puts out a new book, you just go ahead and treat yourself, which is what I did with his latest book Celebrating Home: A Time for Every Season. It would make a wonderful gift too.
Susan Kaufman’s new book. My mom gave me Walk With Me: New York for my birthday and it’s gorgeous. Susan’s is my favorite IG account and I’m thrilled to have some of her photos and neighborhood guides in book form too.
A new everyday purse. I’ve been looking for one for months and then I spotted this Ralph Lauren bucket bag online. I bought it in black and I love so many things about it, including its size (not too big, not too small). It was a splurge for me but it’s also on sale right now.
Flannel Sheets. Our favorite Eddie Bauer flannel sheets are on sale at Amazon. There are a lot of fun prints that are perfect for winter or the holidays. (Kids would love these!)
What are you loving right now? I’d love to hear.
P.S. What’s saving my life and five fun things for your weekend.
What is the name of the Italian restaurant? We are heading to KC in December. I can’t Do flannel sheets as we get too hot but last year I bought linen sheets and we love them for the cooler months. Can’t wait till I can use them again
Hi Nanci. It’s Ricco’s at College and Quivira in Overland Park.
I love your loves, Julie! The pear martini sounds like a great seasonal libation. One of my girlfriends and I have been thoroughly enjoying a lemontini this summer.
Have a great weekend. We’re getting remnants of Ian, but far less than FL and SC…just enough to water in freshly planted pansies and new grass seed. 🙂
I just wanted to tell you how much I LOVE your blog and IG account. I love your style and especially your “Favorite Things”.
