What I’m Reading

I just finished a book that was chosen for my book club by my friend, Janelle, and I wanted to tell you about it. It’s called Left to Tell by Immaculée Ilibagiza, and it’s her story of not only surviving the Rwandan holocaust, but how she found God in the midst of it.

Normally I shy away from intense books like this one, but that’s one of the reasons that a book club is so great; it forces you out of your reading comfort zone.

I had heard of the Rwandan genocide, but had no knowledge of what it was about. This book has made me want to learn more.

I’m also reading 10% Happier by Dan Harris. Dan is the anchor of Nightline, who had a panic attack on air while doing a news update for Good Morning America back in 2004. That event, and a subsequent assignment from Peter Jennings, put him on a path he never expected to be on and one that wasn’t entirely welcome.

I bought the book after watching this interview with Dan on Charlie Rose. His candor, authenticity, and likability kept me riveted during the interview and motivated me to pick up the book.
