What’s Saving My Life Right Now

Each year, around February 1, Anne at Modern Mrs. Darcy asks her readers, “What’s saving your life right now?” The timing isn’t accidental; it comes at that point in the winter when it seems like the short, cold days will go on forever and the things that are hard (and there are plenty right now) can seem even harder.
Anne describes the question this way: Most of us know what’s killing us, and can articulate it if asked. But few of us stop to note what’s giving us life.
I love this annual reminder to stop and take stock. Here are a few of the things that are saving my life right now.
Grocery delivery. I started ordering my groceries through Instacart this month and I cannot underestimate how much happiness this simple change has brought me. Turns out I love creating my shopping list on the computer, being reminded of what I frequently buy and also what’s on sale. And because the groceries just appear on my porch, I find I’m cooking more. I had hoped that would be the case and it is!
Good TV. I’ve struggled with reading lately but TV has been so good. New seasons of two of our favorites – Ozark and Billions – just arrived and we’re trying to finish up the third season of Succession so we can dive into them. I’m also enjoying having the Sex and the City girls back and Tom and I both really enjoyed Dopesick, if you can use that word about something so heavy.
Virtual walks and drives on YouTube. I don’t remember how I first learned of these but you can go to YouTube and search for a destination along with the words ‘virtual drive’ or ‘virtual walk’ and the next thing you know, there you are. I have one of these up often while I’m working on the computer. I think it would be great for time on a treadmill as well. Here are a couple of my favorites: Paris sunset walk and Central Park in the snow.
What’s saving your life right now? I’d love to hear.
P.S. Simplifying and what I’m loving right now.
I love the virtual drive/walk idea. I have never heard of this. Thanks for sharing!
You’re welcome!
I had no idea about the virtual walk! How cool is that??? I watched 2 episodes of And Just Like That and I’m not sure I am interested enough to stick with it. I was super excited about it and now am disappointed.
